Alan’s main focus was to ensure that the institute was “fit for purpose” this involved ensuring that the Institute was providing the services that the members wanted and would include organising social, charity and educational events and the annual dinner dance.

With great support from his council members Alan implemented a series of monthly lunchtime lectures to provide insurance professionals in the region with access to the wealth of knowledge of a range of high profile speakers.

Alan also organised several social events such as a 5 a side football tournament, quiz night and carol service and also encouraged members to get involved with fund raising for ‘The Insurance Charities’ through events such as Relay for life, Charity Cricket Match and the Shrewsbury Severn Bridges 10k Road Race.

Alan oversaw the introduction a website for the local institute to enable both CII members and the general public to keep up to date with local institute news and events:

Alan handed over his chain of office in April 2010 to his deputy, Tony Succamore and was presented with his Past Presidents Medal.

Alan now in a Vice President role continues to be a vocal council member, supporting the work of the Local Institute.

Even the men’s marathon world record holder, Haile Gebreselassie who was hoping to smash his world record struggled in the heat and failed to break his previous record of 2 hours 3 minutes and 59 seconds finishing in a time of 2 hours 7minutes and 4 seconds.

Alan yet again collected sponsorship towards this great achievement and all funds that were raised were donated to “The Insurance Charities”.

Alan would like to complete all 5 World Marathon Majors – he has already achieved London, New York and Berlin leaving Chicago & Boston to run. Alan is due to run Chicago in October 2010 his target is to beat 3 hours 15 minutes in order to gain qualification for Boston Marathon in April 2011.
